February is always a busy time at Dhammajarinee, with high school students participating in large provincial competitions. Earlier this month, they came away with 35 awards across 29 areas, including in music and the arts, science, technology, mathematics, and language. Highlights include:
Music and the Arts: First place in traditional Thai music, song contest, and storytelling; third place awards in Thai dance and international music, contemporary ensemble
Science: First place in science show; second place in science invention
Technology: Gold medals in software development, computer game creation, and graphic design
Mathematics: Second place in mathematic theory/explanation; third place in mathematical equation
Language: Gold medal in poetry; second place award in Chinese speaking
Students also won top awards for innovative and charming mini gardens and beautiful banana leaf art. Please find photos of these creations below. Also below is a photo of the students’ second place-winning science experiment, demonstrating the results of natural anti-fungal treatment using chitosan and betel leaf extract in protecting shallots from fungal diseases and air pollution stress caused by fine dust particles (PM 2.5).
Lastly, below is a clip of our student’s first prize-winning performance of Hong Wong Yai, known throughout Thailand as "The Circle of Gongs.” She is accompanied by a student playing ching, or Thai cymbals, and their teacher on taphon, a traditional Thai drum.
With graduation fast approaching in two weeks, we reflect on a successful school year with gratitude to all our supporters who made it possible.
